Never let anything in your past affect what God has for your future.

Taylor Carter has not always been a Christian all her life. Before Taylor found God she was in a very serious car accident that killed the married man that she was involved with and also took away her ability to walk. After all that was said and done with this life altering event, Taylor still was able to see her way through.

Fast forward to the present; Taylor is now the owner of Push It Fitness center and married to Keith Bryant.  Of course like many say, you cannot be a child of God and not have trials. The wife of the man that was killed in the accident that she was involved in is back to get Taylor. She has a serious case of a woman scorned syndrome. Added to the chaos, Taylor has to deal with the house guest from hell named Paul who is the good friend of Keith, and may hold the key to a painful past that he has hidden from his wife.

Will Taylor and Keith’s marriage survive all trails and tribulations? Will Taylor continue to support her husband once his secret past comes to light?

For a reviewer that is not a fan of Christian fiction I will say that I thoroughly enjoy this book. It was just enough religion to know that is Christian fiction but enough that it is not thrown in the reader’s face. The characters in this novel are those that the reader can relate to, from the wild roommate to the holy sister-in-law. For this to be a debut novel she knocks this one out the ballpark. Yes, I do see the best is yet to come.

When one door closes a window opens, or so the cliché says.

Tamara is jilted at the altar and financially taken for everything she has by a con artist. When the bills are due and she is unemployed; Tamara is looking for the window. Her best friend, Jordan, presents her with a request that will help her financially; yet the requirement is she marry a perfect stranger. When, to marry or lose everything, become her choices, Tamara takes the man and his money.  Yet what if the sham that they portray became real?

Tamara is a full figured beauty that doesn’t know she is beautiful. She is always comparing herself to her society approved thinner cousins as the standard of true beauty. Adding in straight hair or hair weaves and color contacts she again errantly thinks are necessary to prove one’s beauty. In accepting the attention and compliments of her husband, Tamara learns that her natural, confident self is all the beauty she needs.

Kwabena is a handsome accomplished scientist. He has many degrees and awards to back his intelligence up; however, he conveys himself to Tamara as just another man from Ghana. He never lets on about his company, his accomplishments, or even his ability to speak several other languages. Kwabena like Tamara has his own hidden issues; including running from an arranged marriage and an evil ex fiancé that wants him back.

Through all the twists and turns of this relationship, one is taken for a multicultural experience. The reader will learn about Jamaican, Ghanaian, and African foods, clothing, history and even a few words. The interaction between the American family and Ghanaian family shows that no matter the language, love and respect is universal.  As this couple faces their pasts collectively, they must also look to there future to see if once their arrangement is fulfilled will they remain a couple? Can what was supposed to be a temporary fix be something permanent?

In the last novel, Home Wrecker, she encounters Kyra. Every time that named is called it takes her to a bad place. Now Lisette is back and fiercer than ever. Shuante is a client that comes to Lisette. She wants Lisette to set up her no good brother in-law because he is always hitting on her. But it seems that you cannot do the job of being a home wrecker without someone trying to get back at you for what you did. The question now is who is trying to harm Lisette and why. Can history strike twice?

Aida is another woman that whom makes a living out of breaking up unhappy homes. She gets a client by the name of Vivian. Now Vivian does not want to lose her husband; she just wants to make him go to counseling to work on their marriage. Things do not always go as planned all the time and this is one of those times for Aida. Aida falls for her client’s husband. Will Aida do the work that she was paid to do or will she let her feelings for this man over take and tell him what his wife wants to do?

A great author is someone that can pick up from where a book left off and continue with the same fire as the first book. Dwayne S. Joseph did just that with this book. The situations that the characters are placed in gives this book a solid storyline. The drama starts from page one and continues to the end. The sexual encounters, drama, and twist and turns in this book will keep you guessing until the very end.

Two friends who are brought together by schoolyard drama are forever inseparable. Mayson met Renee when her family moved from Jamaica to Dana Point, when the other kids picked on her for her accent Renee defended her; and for the rest of their lives they would defend each other. Renee would need defending for her choice to end her marriage of too many changes. Her ex-husband Linc always trying to change her to what he wants versus who she really is and with Mayson being a lesbian she needs to be defended from her ex flings that sometimes want more than a fling.

Renee is tired of being sweet, innocent, a damsel in distress Renee. After the divorce, she no longer sees the benefits of a traditional relationship other than the sex. Since there is nothing else she feels like she can control other than her sex partner she decides to do something for herself. So after much deliberation and some ill advice from Mayson, Renee signs up for an online dating site and finds someone to her liking and begins to get her groove back.

Mayson is never in a rut as far as sex goes; anytime she needs a fix she thumbs through her black book and finds someone to scratch the itch. However she has one rule; she does not have any desire to be a straight woman’s experiment into the art of lesbian sex.  As Mayson avoids relationships for booty calls, she finds herself in a ticklish position; she is now the center of a straight woman’s fantasies, which of course goes against her rule. Mayson soon realizes that fantasies can turn deadly.

Here we see love has no gender, has no hurt and sometimes has no sense of time. As each woman is forced to take off the blindfold, no matter the material it is made of, and see each other and herself for what they are. Decisions that can not be made by society’s standards or even the ones that can be dictated by corporate America, but from a loving heart. The heart wants what the heart wants and sometimes the easiest decision is the one that’s right in front of you.

Everyone deserves a second chance.

Denim is back and she has crossed the path of someone else that needs her help. Denim meets her new neighbor in the weirdest way. Kane is a sixteen year old student at a private school. She has a father cares who for her deeply and a mother that is addicted to drugs. The paths of Denim and Kane cross as Kane decides that she is going to run away from home. Drama at McDonald’s between Kane’s mother (Yolanda) and her gets so out of hand that the police are called and her father has to place a restraining order to protect his family. Kane is frustrated with having to be a second mother to her two younger brothers. She tells her father that she wants a normal teenage life but that is impossible with all the responsibilities that she has. This is where Denim comes in. Denim starts to spend time with Kane and her brothers. At this time Kane’s father notices that she is growing up and that she needs to be around others her own age. Yolanda sees the damage that she has caused her family and really wants to overcome her addiction. Devin sees all the pain and beatings that Yolanda is taking from the hands of Leon and decides it is time to help her overcome her demon. With the help of Devin, Yolanda overcome the drugs but also falls in love with him.

Will the relationship between Kane and her mother be mended? Does overcoming an addiction means a happy family? Will Kane be able to have a teenage social life or will she always be a second mother? 

With this novel Darrien Lee deals with the subject of addiction and the dynamics of the family. She nailed it on the head with making sure she includes the feelings of the whole family. The handling of the subject matter was very much at a level that many teens can understand. Lee places words in a way that the teenage reader is not feeling like a young child but as an adult that they are growing into.

Raising Kane by Darrien Lee receives 5 stars.

Am I my brother’s keeper?

Roc knows all about game because that is his life. Roc wants better for his little brother, Lil Mac, and has made it a life goal to keep him away from the streets. That was his goal but his brother  has other ideas. Unknown  to Roc, Lil Mac is the creator of the Get Money Click. You can say that the motto of this group is by any means necessary. Roc and his crew prepare for battle with the Get Money Click. Roc wants to get out the game but how can he leave knowing that this new Get Money Click is taking over and he crew is not getting money anymore. How can he leave the people that help him create his empire? So Roc goes to battle one more time still not knowing that the person he is battling is his little brother. Who will spill blood first? Will Roc find out that the person that he is fighting is his flesh and blood before it is too late?

I have to give these book 3 stars. Blood of my Brothers started off very slow. Not being able to grab the attention of the reader until the middle of the book is not a good thing. Zoe and Yusuf Woods have a great storyline but it is lost in the first half of the book. If these authors spent a little more time with the beginning of the book the rating would have been more that three stars. Once in the middle of the book the flow goes very quickly to the end. The ending of the book leads greatly into the next novel.

How many times can a marriage survive the same problem? Keithe would like to know after all these years of being married to his wife Michelle. Yes, he loves her but he has to love himself and the Lord more than all this woman has put him through.

he believes that through enough faith for the both of them, things will get better., wants to be a successful husband. Though he has heard rumors around the courthouse involving his wife, without direct concrete proof he is not about to move on. Granted her, Keithe

Michelle, is a successful judge but even more successful as an always on the prowl cougar. In her heart of hearts she does love her husband, she just doesn’t know how to show it. Due to her lack of emotional ties growing up, she proceeds to do her dirt and still try to hold onto the marriage any way she can, even lying about a very living past.

Stoney is a confused young woman growing up with no mother. Instead, she was raised by her schizophrenic grandmother, which leads her to daily question her own sanity and worse yet take medication that is not hers. Once her grandmother passes away, Stoney is ready to move from little city to big city in a quest to search for the mother that abandoned her and her grandmother. What Stoney didn’t expect were all the lives involved and the road it would lead her down.

As these lives intertwine like vines, the lies that they each have based their life on do as well. When all that has been done in the dark comes to light, will a lost child be found, a husband finally honored, and a wife ready to submit to the full idea of marriage, just not the aspects of partnership?

Deandra has two main dreams in life. Her first is to be the best parent to her young daughter and the second is to be a famous dancer.When trying to achieve her goals she meets a young, sexy, man by the name of Kwame. At first, he was just a sexy face that she could not get her mind off, and then with a second chance meeting while shopping, he becomes a man of interest. She has a feeling that she has met Kwame at another place in her life. Is Kwame the man to give her the motivation to pursue her dream? In addition, where does she know Kwame from? Is there drama in the future for this new couple?

 

Kwame is a very successful man. He wants for nothing. He meets Deandra and is very smitten by her. He falls in love with this around the way girl. Kwame is dealing with a situation from his past, that will greatly affect the relationship with Deandra. Will this situation resolve itself with love or will there have to be bloodshed to bring there union together?

Daniel aka Fresh, is and up and coming player in the game. He loves the world of money, cars, and girls. One night changes the life of this want-to-be player . A family is murdered and a close relative of the decreased has now sent out a hit on the person who did the deed. Daniel’s girlfriend who happens to be pregnant. How will Daniel deal with everything that is going on? Will the love for money be his downfall? Is blood thicker then water when he has to choose being between the street life and the love of his sister and having a new baby?

Starting very slow in the beginning but leading to a much thrown together ending. From the readers standpoint seems the author was going one way with this story then decided to go another angle. Some parts of the book gets you hooked to the action that is going on but the next thing that happens in the story places you into left field and leaves the reader wondering where did that come from. I wish the author would have given more interaction with the main plot of the character. I say it is a good read, but if the author had taken out some parts of the books that seem to be just “fluff”, it would have been a great read.

Portia is a beautiful stripper. Dont get her wrong Portia is no dummy, she is a math wiz and college graduate with a 4.0 GPA. Portia started stripping while trying to make a dolla outta fifteen cents to pay for college. She meets Jay a man that she loves and motivates her to change. As we all know not everyone wants to see change and there are still consequences for actions...no matter how long ago.


Laila is married to Khalil and together has made a dolla outta fifteen cents but lately Khalil has been distance and Laila doesnt know what to do.


Simone is a hustla and when her married but wealthy boss is willing to her make a dolla outta fifteen cents how can she pass that up. Everything has a price and not everything can be gotton rid of by money...


Fatima has never had to make a dolla outta fifteen cents. Her family is wealthy. Fatima has had her fair share of partners, so when she has to get an AIDS test she is more than terrified.


Ms McGill does a great job with spreading the message about HIV/AIDS while still keeping it street. I recommend this book for teenagers. I have to give this book 5 stars. There is a part 2 and 3. Part 4 is to be coming soon

Amber and Damir have been in a rollercoaster relationship for quite some time. Damir is at a point where he wants to let it all go and find true love. Amber has invested a lot of time into Damir and will not let him go without a good fight. A huge change is in store for this couple. Will this change force Damir to rethink his decision or will Amber lose the love of her life?


Will any of these relationships work out despite all the problems that are around? Who is Emeri and what does she have to do with everyone?


Covented is drama from the first page. To be a debut novel, the storyline, details, and interaction of the characters are on the level of a seasoned, certain, author. At times, you will get confused but the author makes sure that the reader understands the relationships and all the connections of the character. Mychea also is very talented to keep the readers wondering about the next action.

     Why “We” Didn’t choose You by William T. Hoston Ph.D shows different views of men on the topic of relationships. The author asked questions to everyday men. These were questions that almost every female has asked at one time or another. The questions ranged from, why men cheat, to what is the difference between making love, and having sex. The men in this novel confessed in some instances the roles (good or bad) that they played in relationships. These gentlemen give the female reader a look into the male thoughts and offer different opinions to females.

     The views at times can be very frank, and most times not what the average woman wants to know or hear. This book also gives a glance into the reasoning of the opposite sex; from playa, to all American man. This book contains letters written by the men to their ex- girlfriends as well as poems written at the end about their thoughts.

     I am not a fan of non- fiction but I am truly a fan of this book. This is not a book for both women   and men. I feel that is it a breath of fresh air to get an insight into what other men are thinking and saying about the same topic or topics that might be causing problems in your relationships. When reading this book I had mixed of emotions. I would try to when compared, to another proclaimed self help novel by Steve Harvey; I would say this one is better because this book shows that not all men think alike. This is truly a five star read.

     Ervin McNair is a successful businessman who  is known to have his way with women. Sarah Prescott has moved to California to start a brand new life with her Aunt Etta.

     After a one night encounter, the lives of Sarah and Ervin will never be the same. Sara has a secret that she is determined to take to her grave, but after an attack at work that dream almost stays true. Now the secret that she is supposed to take to her grave is out in the open. How long will this secret stay a secret? And what does Mr. McNair and this one night encounter have to do with Sarah.

     The synopsis on the back of the book has very little to do with the book. It was very misleading. In a way to me the book seems incomplete. It was very hard to pay attention. I felt like it was long and drawn out on the parts where it could have been straightforward and to the point. On the flipside it was very short were it would have been better if more information was given on that section or part.  There were clues that were missing and if they had been included in the novel I would have given it a higher rating.

1. Tell us about you.
Denise was born and reared in the midst of a drug-infested environment on Chicago’s West Side. The  oldest of seven siblings, Denise was reared by her grandparents in a sweet but bitter home. By the time she was five, she had been molested by several family members. Denise began shooting heroin at age twelve, initiating a cycle of crime and addiction that lasted 14 years. In 1986 Denise met the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave her a second chance at life and rewrote her destiny. Upon changing her lifestyle and connecting with positive people, Denise overcame the adversities controlling her life and has lived the last 25 years, clean and sober. After years of using drugs, she made the cognitive decision to turn her life around and do something positive for herself.

2. What made you want to become a writer?
That others who have or are currently walking in my shoes may know that there is Hope and can change.

3. Where does your inspiration come from?
My mother


4. How important are book cover to your novel?
The book cover represents my past struggles to my victory as being a diamond made under pressure.

5. If you could team up with any author and write the ultimate five star novel, who would it be and what would be the name of the novel?

 I am not sure who it would be, but ultimate the five star novel would be “The Prison Within Me”

6. What do you do when you are not writing? 

Presently I working on a stage play, otherwise I’m shoe shopping and learning to travel

7. How did you come up with the title for your novel? 

God gave me this title, when everyone else said I was nothing and would never be nothing, God said “Who Said It Couldn’t Be Done”

8. If you had to go back and do it all over, is there any aspect of your novel or getting it published that you would change?

 NO, the ride has been worth it all

9. Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans? 

 I pray that my story would bless you, that you might help me to continue spread the message to hope to the masses.

My grandmother always told me “You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself”. The people in Rodney’s neighborhood called him “Savage” because of his poor appearance, but unknowingly those same people turned him into the Fierce, Violent and Uncontrollable force or simply put the Young Savage he would become.

Young Savage is a gripping tale of a young man’s survival in a world where only the strong survive. With no real male guidance and a mother chasing her next fix while her revolving door of men came and went, Rodney was left to fend for himself. His only real companion was his dog Bam, another stray left alone in the world. His days are filled with hopeless dreams and hungry nights.

Rodney while playing in the park notices the action of the local hustler and ends up befriending the leader, Pookie, sending Rodney on journey he will never forget. I loved Rodney’s character because despite everything he was still loyal to his mother. There were a few grammatical and editorial errors that did take away from the story slightly, but overall I give this 4 stars. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fast paced and highly addictive read.

Caught Up By Jacob “JB” Burrage

It was interesting how one moment changed everything for successful author Jeremiah Blackwood; and how sitting at the bus stop would put his world into super orbit. That day he meet a woman named Shirley, and while taking her from her man wasn't the plan, neither was all the hell that opened up from her existence in his life. As their crazy alignment becomes a relationship; lies, secrets, and other people, have Jeremiah wishing he had driven the day he meet her.

They exchanged numbers, chatted for a few days, and then Shirley made her move. After all the complaining about her man, she just needed someone to love her. How could he deny her when she possessed one of the best bodies he had ever seen? They had sex until the morning, yet Jeremiah awakes to an empty bed. This would happen a lot after their late night rendezvous. Finally as any man would, he forces her to decide choose him or her man. What he gets in response shakes his core and she chooses neither instead make moves with a woman.

As Shirley leads Jeremiah through a on again, off again, relationship he sexes down a few willing females: including Shirley's new girlfriend. The repercussions of her unwillingness to make a man or woman her main attraction leads this cast through some life or death situations.

The hypocrisy of the double standard is displayed frequently. While socially acceptable for a man to sleep around, a woman does it she is called everything but a woman when displays the exact same behavior. The author does however slightly redeem themselves and makes mention for men to take heed that the game they have so longed played is now being perfected by women.
 
Love has no shape, color, race, and nowadays gender, yet can be disguised by lust. Lust is the physical need to have someone where love is the desire of another's affection. Lust drives the hearts of men to kill for a one night stand, when love knows there are no more one nights there is only every night.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave; when first we practice to deceive! Yesterday’s Lies is just that, a tangled web of lies and deceit. Toni and David have been together since high school, Jada, Toni’s best friend since high school, and Benjamin, David’s friend since childhood hook up as well. During their senior year of college things take a turn for the worse, when one lie is told to cover up an unfortunate event, which produces more lies for years to come.

I was a little confused at first because I wasn’t sure how the characters tied in together in the beginning, eventually it became clear. This is a fast paced quick read, filled with twists and turns and a surprising revelation. I give this 3.5/4 stars due to the slight confusion in the beginning. I would recommend this to all readers looking for a surprising and suspenseful read.

Sexual abuse is a very serious and ongoing issue in society. In March 2011 it was reported that Child sexual abuse has been reported up to 80,000 times a year, but the number of unreported instances is far greater. The reason being is that most people not involved don’t want the shame and ridicule so they turn a blind eye and tell the child “what happens within these walls stays within these walls”. Spirit Unbroken is a riveting tale of one child’s ability to survive despite the cruel and sometimes horrific events she was subjected to.

This was the my first novel by Jeanne McElvaney, Spirit Unbroken captures you from the first page and takes you on Abby’s emotional journey from childhood through her adult years. I look forward to reading more form this author and I give this 5 stars. I recommended this to all readers.

Sometimes a quickie is all you need…

10 Erotic: Book 1 by Dallas Black is for the reader on the go that needs a little taste of a good story. Just enough of a tease to get to the next phase. All of the stories contained in this book were that of raw passion, in numerous places, from the laundry room to the spa. All the stories have a great storyline that stays on point for whatever the theme is. I cannot say much more or I will be giving away too much.
The fact each story has a poem that goes along with it is just another plus for this author.

I personally love this book. It was just an enough to tease keep and me satisfied. The vivid use of description gives you a since of being there like a fly on the wall watching the action. My personal favorite of this author would have to be called Preserves and P**sy.


I give this book 5 star. I recommend this book to anyone that does not have the time to sit and read a conventional novel and just want a little something to hit the spot.

It’s the day that all girls wait for. Pretty white dress, friends and family, and the man of their dreams. But on this day, everything is at the church except the bride-to-be. McKenzie Johnson decided that the man at the altar that she has been in a long up and down engagement is not the man that she wants to marry. So she decides to not go on with it but to take a 7 day and 7 night cruise with Adair, the stripper from her bachelorette party.

When McKenzie takes upon this cruise with Adair she sees it as a chance to not think about what the past year has brought about her, but to just have fun and enjoy herself. All that starts to change however as the emotional connection and sexual desire between her and Adair becomes too much to handle. Seven Days and seven nights have come and gone and it is time to face the real world again.

McKenzie now has to deal with the consequences of leaving Milton at the altar with no warning except a letter. Will she forget about the time that she spent with Adair and try to give her relationship with the man she once loved another try or will she move on and find a new love with a new man?

L’Mignion has knocked another book out of the park. I was hooked on this book from day one. Seven Days and Seven Nights picked right up from where her debut novel, Skeletons in the Closet, left off. A plus is that the reader does not necessarily have to read the first novel to be able to understand this novel. The author gives McKenzie a “real woman’s mind” as well a realistic character with all the emotions included.
This book was a very fast paced, action, and sexually packed novel. Again well done!!!
